This is a tiny plugin that allows you to convert an amount of money from one currency to another.

The exchange rate is obtained live from http://www.webservicex.net//CurrencyConvertor.asmx (there’s a test page here – look down for “Test”).

Usage

Put the <txp:ort_currency_convert /> tag right within an article or use it wherever you have a number representing money in one currency that you want to show in another currency at the present currency exchange.

Attributes

• from: The currency in which the original sum is expressed (default = EUR).
• to: The currency to which you want to convert the sum (default = USD).
• value: The sum of money you want to convert (default = 1).
• precision: The precision (number of decimals) of the result (default = 2).

Notes:

• I think the precision of the conversion rate is at most 4.
• To avoid error propagation, rounding is the very last step.
• You can also specify a negative precision with the precision attribute. If you specify precision = “-2” then the last 2 digits will always be 0.

So, if you put a plain <txp:ort_currency_convert /> tag with no attributes, it will show you the Euro to US Dollar exchange rate.

I bought a T-Shirt in London that cost me about <txp:ort_currency_convert value=12.95 from="GBP" to="USD" /> US Dollars (I actually payed 12.95 British Pounds).
