Textpattern Resources Logo & Icons Design Contest

We are currently working on a redesign of this very site with a goal of completing it for the Fall CSS Reboot effort. In order to complete the redesign, we’d like to solicit the help of the Textpattern community in the form of a little contest. The contest will have 2 parts: logo design and icon design. The logo contest particularly has a submission deadline of September 9 September 21, 2005. The icon designs can take a bit longer. Please submit your entries to admin [at] textpattern [dot] org.

The logos will be posted on the Textpattern Resources site for comments after the submission deadline but the winner or winners will be picked by Alicson and myself. You can enter one or both of the contests as many times as you’d like. The more the merrier. If you don’t want your submission posted, just let us know.

The winner or winners will receive all the fame and glory associated with an appearance on the About page of the site which receives over 130,000 visits per month and rising.

Logo Contest

The only restrictions on logo submissions are that they use colors from the palette below. Please submit your entry in .gif or .png format. We may ask the winner to make slight adjustments to their design based on size restrictions which are TBD.

UPDATE: 09/28/2005 Logo Submissions have been posted

Icon Contest

Icons should again use the color palette below. We’re looking for a series of icons to represent the following:

  • Plugins
  • Mods
  • Tutorials
  • Templates
  • Help
  • Home
  • at least 2 general use bullets

You can optionally include icons for the following:

  • About
  • Sitemap
  • Archives
  • Feeds
  • Links

You’re welcome to make up your own additional icons as well if you think they’ll be helpful.

Color Palette

There are also some teaser shots of the new design over at TXP Magazine.

Also, there’s the forum post.

Thanks and good luck! Feel free to post or email any questions.

UPDATE: 09/09/2005

Thanks to everyone who has participated and submitted designs so far. There are some really talented folks in this community. Of course.

In response to a number of compelling and some very sweetly-worded requests, we’re extending the deadline to September 21st. This is mostly for the logo submissions, but icon submissions are welcome at anytime as well. Again, there is no limit on number of submissions.

Thanks again.

Sorry for the delay guys… life gets in the way…
Much appreciation to all who participated.. Some very nice work! See for yourself:

UPDATE: 10/08/2005

Without further ado, the results you’ve been waiting for…

The logo design that will be used for Textpattern Resources v2 is none other than Mr. Digging Guy.

We may of course have to do some minor adjusting but this is pretty much it. We’ll partner it with a new tag line: “Uncovering tips, tricks and plugins for Textpattern”. The designer of the logo has requested to remain nameless until the reboot is launched so you’ll have to wait until then to find out the identity of the winner.

Thanks again for all who submitted entries. It was definitely a tough decision. Some other entries of note that were under final consideration include entries by:

All of these had great potential but didn’t quite fit into the style of the site we have in mind. But its always possible that we could use these or other entries in the future.

Now, a mere 23 days remain to reboot the site. Be sure to check back on 11/1 for Textpattern Resources v2.
